Covered Care Patient
Financing Application

A fast, hassle-free application process with no paperwork and real-time decisions. Patients can apply for financing and be approved in under 5 minutes.

I oversaw all creative aspects of this project, including developing the design system/language, UX best practices, usability testing, and testing in dev environments. This design system has the capability of being white-labeled for providers if they chose to create their own "in-house" financing solution.

The Process

The process

This application flow was a highly iterative project. Through A/B beta testing, we were able to tweak the flow and discover edge cases that needed solving. The end result is a product that allowed our customers to qualify and apply for financing in real time in just a few minutes.

As a small start up who was moving at the speed of light, ideation was a fast, messy endeavor. Not always able to walk through every step of the design process, I made due with the time constraints at hand and still built a solid product.

User Research and Persona Development

Since our product is aimed at patients of all walks of life, we had to make decisions that involved designing for the lowest common denominator. If our eldest patients could use our application with little resistance and minimal help from our provider partners, then we knew we hit the sweet spot.

Initial Research

Covered Care's financing product is truly unique. A BNPL product designed for the healthcare space. So I turned to successful BNPL products such as Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay. Even more traditional patient financing lines of credit such as Care Credit and Green Sky to create benchmarks. Once I discovered what a "Gold standard" application was, I could then innovate and find ways to improve the process to raise the bar.

Design Process

The next objective was to dig up as many use cases as possible and create flows for each and every one. This took a lot of questioning providers directly, and a little trial and error. There are a lot of "What If?" in this space. Pair that with stringent regulations for financing AND HIPAA regulations, you have a lot of hurdles to get past.
