Role

Solo Product Designer

I designed and prototyped a next-gen book tracking app aimed at readers who crave more than just star ratings and text reviews. Inspired by the limitations of platforms like Goodreads, this concept focused on vibe-based discovery, modern UI, and a strong sense of community identity.

The Problem:
Goodreads dominates the book tracking space, but the experience feels dated, clunky, and overly tied to Amazon. Discovery is shallow, community features are underdeveloped, and indie authors often get buried. Readers want mood, tone, and aesthetic, not just genres and five-star scales.

The Concept
The goal was to create a platform that answers the question:
“What should I read based on how I feel?”

Core ideas:
-Use AI to recommend books based on how you feel about books in your library
-A clean, mobile-first UI built for quick logging and discovery

Vibe Coding with AI:
I developed a custom AI-powered system to recommend books to users based on how they feel about books they've previously read and deliver a list of books with a % score to how closely titles fit with their emotional preferences. This became the backbone for a vibe filter system, letting users search for books by mood, not just metadata. I used Base44 to structure prompts and build a semi-automated workflow that could scale.

UX and Visual Design:
-Mobile first UI
-Vibe-based book discovery
-A library for users to log their read books for future recommendations
-A Read later list for users to quickly save the recommended books

Results:
The prototype was used to validate interest among early users. Feedback included:
-“Finally, something that reflects how I read.”
-“Love the idea of mood filters, it’s how I pick books anyway.”
-“This feels like what Goodreads should have evolved into.”

Next Steps:
I’m currently refining the system and exploring development partners for a small-scale MVP launch. Future possibilities include:
-Integration with indie bookstores and publishers
-Custom reading lists and Spotify-style sharing
-Author dashboards for self-pub engagement

Takeaway:
This project was a sandbox for blending creative AI workflows with product design, and a chance to imagine a more human, emotionally intelligent future for digital reading communities.
